I decided to try painting the year I turned 40. Found a teacher, Kathy Wren, and started taking classes with a friend. I didn’t have a lot of patience for the drawing exercises, I wanted color, and luckily Kathy was a good enough teacher to let me learn in the way it worked best for me. I paint from my photos and am always interested in seeing what the paintings bring to life. I started painting with Oilbar and Alkyds and have added acrylic to the mix. Subject matter has moved from landscapes to animals. Although I’m doing much more mixed media work lately I still love the smell of oil paint and anticipate a return to the medium.
